Coaches' Profiles

David Wood
Head Coach

I've been playing and coaching soccer since the age of 5. After college, I became the assistant soccer coach for both the boy's and girl's teams at The O’Neal School in Southern Pines, North Carolina, where I also taught physics and math and served as the school’s Dean of Students. After three years as the assistant coach, I became head coach for both teams for two years. After two years of graduate school at CU Boulder, I began teaching and coaching soccer at Centaurus High School. I was the JV boys coach for five years, learning the program culture and improving my coaching and understanding of the game under Coach Stanley. I then served as the interim head coach for one year before fully taking over as head coach in the 2022 season.

My coaching philosophy focuses on helping young people grow into happy, confident, capable, responsible adults. I believe creating a championship team first requires creating championship young adults. I aim to create an atmosphere that encourages the growth of teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, joy, friendship, and determination in my players. Of course, winning is always part of the plan, but I want my players to win in their lives beyond the pitch more than anything else, and to remember their time playing high school soccer fondly!

Hunter Reid
Assistant Coach

I grew up and played soccer here in Lafayette. I went through the whole Trebol system and played here at Centaurus from 2007-2011. In fact, when I was a freshman Coach Stanley was my coach! After a successful high school career, I pursued academics in college and traveled all the way down to Boulder for school. I graduated in May 2015 with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. I didn't play when I was a freshman and I missed soccer so much that I decided to play on the club team the next three years. Somewhere along this time, as I was almost becoming an adult (still working on it), I realized a few things: I love soccer and I love helping kids grow up. I was lucky enough to have some very powerful and positive role models when I was in youth soccer. They exemplified great character and as I looked up to them it made a huge difference in what I strove for and how I accomplish things and carry myself today. One of my goals as a coach at Centaurus High School is to give kids the opportunities to be the role model that I had when I was younger.
